Visit of the French high school Josué-Hoffet
On March 19, French Ambassador H.E. Mr. Yves Carmona invited several Lao officials, including H.E. Mr. Phongsavath Boupha, Chief of staff of the Presidency and in charge of Francophonie, H.E. Mr. Ouan Phommachack, Ambassador-designate of the Lao PDR to France, and H.E. Mrs. Sèngdeuane Lachanthaboun, Deputy Minister of Education, to visit the French high school Josué-Hoffet in Vientiane. Mr. Southam Sakonhninhom, Director-General of Europe-America Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mr. Daophet Bouapha (Vientiane Capital) also attended the visit.
This visit was part of the month of the Francophonie in Laos, and should allow visitors to overview operating realities, pedagogical and educational policy implemented by the high school. The excellent results obtained by students these past few years have made the high school a reference and a model in Lao PDR.
The diversity of the public welcomed by the institution is also an asset, as 30 % of the pupils are Lao. As such, the high school plays a prominent role to improve training and qualification standards in Laos.
The visit of the premises also enabled to discover the large amount of extra-curricular activities organized by the high school (theatre, science, music, arts, sewing, drawing, “Ambassadeurs en herbe” tournament co-host by UNESCO and the Agency for French Teaching Abroad (AEFE)...).
The great success of Josué-Hoffet attracts a growing number of pupils (now 530), and the school is henceforth too small and may not be able to welcome all the future applicants. Therefore, Josué-Hoffet high school must expand, this extension being approved by Lao authorities last October during the visit to France of the Lao PDR President’s, H.E. Mr. Choummaly Sayasone.
